Speech and Language Therapy

Speech and language therapy services address both a child's articulation and/or receptive and expressive language skills:

  • Articulation is a child's speech sound production.
  • Receptive language skills are a child's ability to process and understand language.
  • Expressive language skills are a child's ability to effectively use both oral and written language.

Spackenkill's speech and language therapy department offers a variety of services both individually and in a small group setting:

  • Pull-out model: the students receive services in a special location.
  • Push-in model: the students receive therapy within in their classroom setting.
  • Consultant model: the speech pathologist provides the classroom teacher with strategies for support within the class.
  • Collaborative model: a speech language pathologist collaborates with a special education teacher within a special class setting.
