Speech and language therapy services address both a child's articulation and/or receptive and expressive language skills:
- Articulation is a child's speech sound production.
- Receptive language skills are a child's ability to process and understand language.
- Expressive language skills are a child's ability to effectively use both oral and written language.
Spackenkill's speech and language therapy department offers a variety of services both individually and in a small group setting:
- Pull-out model: the students receive services in a special location.
- Push-in model: the students receive therapy within in their classroom setting.
- Consultant model: the speech pathologist provides the classroom teacher with strategies for support within the class.
- Collaborative model: a speech language pathologist collaborates with a special education teacher within a special class setting.
